You know you're an Arab when…
- You arrive one or two hours late to a party and think it's normal.
- You are standing next to the largest suitcases at the Airport.
- You talk for an hour at the front door when leaving someone's house.
- You say bye 17 times on the phone.
- Your parents don't realize that phone connection to foreign countries have improved in the last two decades and still scream at the top of their lungs when making long distance calls.
- Your relatives alone could populate a small city.
- You always say "open the light" instead of "turn the light on".
- You've had a shoe thrown at you by your mother.
- When your parents meet strangers and talk for a few minutes, you discover they know one of your uncles back home.
- You do all the housework and cooking if you are female
- You refer to your dad's friends as 3amo.
- You still came back home to live with your parents after you graduate.
- You have an endless supply of pistachios, dates, and pumpkin seeds. . .
- Your parents say you're becoming Americanized anytime you get into trouble.
- You curse at your teachers or strangers in Arabic.
- You have at least thirty cousins.
- You teach Westerners swearwords in your Arabic.
- Your parents want you to become a doctor or engineer.
- You use your forehead and eyebrows to point something out. . .
- Your parents drink 6 cups of tea a day.
- You can spot an Arab a mile away and they have spotted you because they keep staring.
- You are proud to be an Arab.
- A visa is not a credit card.
- You flip out any time someone mistakes you for Mexican or Indian.
- Your hide everything from your parents.
- You go back to your parents' country and people treat you like a member of the royal family.
- You went to a university as far away from home as possible.
- You have been told to not walk barefoot on the floor in order to avoid a cold.
- When you FLY BACK home you find 20 people waiting for you at the airport.
- You fight over who pays the dinner bill.
- You pronounce your p's like b's (bolice and bebsi)
- You ask your dad a simple question and he tells you a story of how he had to walk miles just to get to school.
- Your dad swears at you with words that affect himself.
- You only walk on the streets in groups of seven or more people and talk really really loud in Arabic together.
- If you are an Arab girl, you give the look of death to another Arab girl who looks better than you.
